The ERA Hank McGonagle Journalism Award is an international Award established since 2001. It is presented annually at the ERA General Assembly Awards Dinner. Current Award Holder - Aimée Turner, Editor of Air Traffic ManagementAimée Turner, Editor, Air Traffic Management, has been awarded the ERA Hank McGonagle Journalism Award 2012/13 for her article Space Odyssey - an in-depth analysis of how attempts to manage the forecast boom in air traffic safety, while driving down costs, is encouraging Europe to adopt satellite-based data exchange. The judges were particularly impressed by Aimée’s article which thoroughly explored the reasons behind the drive to satellite-based data exchange in an unbiased and compelling fashion and included independent analysis from a number of market experts. BackgroundThe ERA Hank McGonagle Journalism Award is presented annually for excellent, accurate and discerning reporting on topical issues related to the intra-European air transport industry. It recognises the important role played by the media in influencing the framework for the development of intra-European air transport, and in highlighting its economic and social importance. Award CriteriaThe ERA Hank McGonagle Journalism Award is open to trade or non-trade media, in print or web-based formats. The winner gains international media coverage benefiting from recognition of their work and the raised profile that this entails. They will also see their name published in ERA's Regional International publication and the winning article will appear on the ERA website. Hank McGonagle and GE AviationGE Aviation has been the sponsor of the media facilities at the ERA General Assembly for more than 20 years. Hank McGonagle was the principal advocate behind this sponsorship and it is for this reason that the award is honoured in his name. |
