The new EU rules for the screening of duty-free liquids, aerosols and gels (LAGs) have now been published. These rules are part of a phased approach and will allow passengers as of 31st January 2014 to keep their duty-free liquids purchased at airports, when they are transferring at EU airports.

Regional airlines have cause for concern following today's proposed revision by the European Commission to Regulation 261/2004. "The revision does address some flaws in the current passenger rights legislation, but it also raises new worrying aspects that need to be considered," says Simon McNamara, Director General, European Regions Airline Association (ERA*).

The European airspace users' community is facing another setback on the implementation of Single European Sky after the Single Sky Committee, consisting of representatives of the 27 Member States of the European Union adopted the so-called performance and charging schemes for the period 2015-2019. This legal framework is a retrograde step for the timely and successful establishment of the Single European Sky (SES).

The European Commission is currently developing one of the centrepieces of the Single European Sky (SES) legislation: the legal framework concerning the performance and charging scheme for air navigation services for the period of 2015-2019. Considering the previous under-performance of the Member States, it is unacceptable that due to their pressure the Commission's new proposals are not only lacking ambition, but will also prevent the realisation of the high level goals for SES by a considerable margin.
