ERA'S MISSION STATEMENT ERA is, and will remain, the principal body that represents the interests of organisations involved in intra-European air transport by: - Influencing regulatory and environmental conditions
- Facilitating technical cooperation and advancement, and;
- Gaining public and political support
A SHORT HISTORY ERA was founded in 1980 with just 5 members. Since 1987, under the Director General, Mike Ambrose, ERA has grown to represent over 220 companies and is the only body representing the interests of the intra-European air transport industry in Europe. HOW ERA WORKS ERA is governed by a Board, which is elected by the membership at the annual General Assembly. The Board comprises 12 ERA airline presidents and seven representatives from the major associate member companies including two airport members. The Board is responsible for overseeing the activities and strategy of the Association. The ERA Directorate works on behalf of the ERA Board and its members. The Directorate is comprised of five different departments; Technical Services (Operations, Maintenance, Air Safety & Security), Corporate Communications, Air Transport Policy, Business Development and Infrastructure and Environment, each headed by a Director or General Manager who acts on behalf of the membership on issues affecting the industry. Each department has additional support staff members who assist in the day to day running of ERA in accordance with the Association's strategy. OUR MEMBERS An association of over 200 companies, representing the entire industry, including 60 airlines, 40 airports and over 100 associate and affiliate members comprising aircraft & engine manufacturers, international & regional airports and avionic suppliers & service providers. OUR AIRLINE MEMBERS 60 airlines operating to over 390 European cities in 55 countries with 1,100 aircraft, covering 1,300 city pairs, carrying 73 million passengers per year on 1.7 million flights ABOUT OUR BUSINESS* - ERA member airlines fly an average distance of 550km, which is equivalent to flying between Amsterdam and Berlin or Paris and Bordeaux.

- Our airports range from large intercontinental "hub" airports employing 5523, to essential regional airports utilising a staff of less than 15.
- Passenger throughput at our airports range from 5000 to 26,650,000 passengers per year
- 31% of our passengers are interlining (or connecting) passengers
- Our members use aircraft with an average capacity of 68 seats
- 98% of our passengers fly on scheduled operations
- Our aircraft are, on average, less than 10.5 years old incorporating the most modern, environmentally friendly types
- Between 6500 and 360,000 movements per year are handled by our airports
- 56% of the fleet is comprised of jet aircraft
