2008/9 Winners left to right: Geoffrey O'Byrne White, CityJet (SILVER), Antonis Simigdalas, Aegean Airlines (GOLD), Richard Kongsteien, Wideroe (BRONZE) |
The ERA Airline of the Year Award recognises excellence and achievement by three ERA airline members - GOLD, SILVER and BRONZE - and encourages the highest standards across the intra-European air transport industry.
A focus on achievement - judging criteria The criteria of the Airline of the Year Award focus on the accomplishment of specific achievements. Achievements may cover any area of an airline's business whether it is financial, environmental, training, IT, industry affairs / political, technical and many more. It may cover strategy or tactics. It may have benefited your airline or the industry as a whole, or both. It may be one major achievement or a series of smaller achievements that may either stand alone or together to make up one big achievement.
ERA airline members are diverse and vary considerably in size, ownership, business model and operating environment. As a result they have different challenges to overcome and it would be unfair to compare one airline's achievements against another whose circumstances may be quite different.
Background information to this effect is therefore requested on the Entry Form, in addition to the Achievement(s). In this way, the judges are able to assess each airline’s achievements against their own merits, rather than compared with other airlines whose operating conditions may be quite different. It also ensures that direct knowledge or experience of a particular airline is not necessary to make such an assessment. Thus the Award is accessible to all ERA airlines and they all have equal chances of meriting the Award.
Judging procedure One of the major assets of the ERA Airline of the Year Award is the quality, independence and fairness of its judging procedure. The judging panel comprises a mix of industry's senior experts together with respected air transport journalists from all over Europe. Panellists are carefully selected for their knowledge and ability to assess achievements against the specific circumstances and constraints under which individual airlines operate.
How to Enter Entry to the ERA Airline of the Year Award is open to ERA Airline members only, and is entirely free of charge. Entries must be submitted on the official ERA Airline of the Year Entry Form which will be despatched to all airline members by email around Easter time 2009. The winners will be announced at the ERA General Assembly Awards Dinner in Iinterlaken, Switzerland on 8 October 2009.
