Intra-European airlines provide vital air services between the regions and major hubs of Europe. Regional air services contribute to the decentralization of populations and encourage the growth of new business in regional communities. They also operate the most environmentally friendly jet and turboprop aircraft. These services are now under threat from various factors such as the soaring price of oil, political pressure to reduce aviation’s environmental impact culminating in the inclusion of aviation in the EU Emissions Trading Scheme, and the impending UK E-Borders legislation.
How airline profits will be affected by future fuel and carbon prices and fuel availability; forecast demand for aircraft of 20-120 seats and the need to ensure better regulation procedures at European level will therefore be key themes at the Manchester conference.
