Implementing Emissions Trading for the Aviation Sector - A Joint ERA & IACA Workshop

Brussels, Belgium 29 April 2009

Operators must act before the end of 2009 to prepare for the implementation of emissions trading (ETS). Emissions trading for aviation is now law; all operators flying to, from and within any EU Member State must comply with the legislation.

ERA and IACA held a one day workshop designed to provide operators with practical advice and guidance on how to prepare for and implement emissions trading in their airline.

The workshop covered the entire compliance process from the perspective of an operator and  included specialist external speakers. Subjects covered included:

• A general overview of emissions trading
• Who is responsible for complying with the legislation
• How to deal with leasing situations
• A review of key dates and action required by operators
• How to apply for free carbon permits
• How to monitor, report and verify your airline’s emissions
• How and when to trade
