ERA supports the greater integration of inter-modal transport services on a commercial basis. Where there is an economic demand for an intermodal facility then transport undertakings will provide the facility. While recognising that there are a small number of major intra-European routes which can justify the development of a competing high-speed rail service on economic grounds (although without significant environmental gains), the replacement of a large number of intra-European flights of up 1000 km by high-speed rail services is both economically and environmentally unjustifiable and unsustainable.
