COP15 brings no new environmental targets for aviation

ERA Chairs the Council for Environmentally Friendly Aviation (CEFA). CEFA is made up of industry associations and works to coordinate industry policy as well as working on ways of promoting aviation's activities in the area of the environment. 

Preparing for Emissions Trading

Aviation will be integrated into the existing European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) by Directive 2008/101/EC which became law on the 2 February 2009.

The European Commission (EC) has been studying the so-called "internalisation of external costs" for transport for a number of years. This policy, which would require additional costs to be paid by all transport end-users, is also known as "the polluter pays" or "the end-user pays the full cost including social costs".

In January 2008 the European Commission commissioned a study to identify and evaluate European measures to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) from aircraft. The final report was published in March 2009.
