The Directorate's aim is to ensure that any rulemaking programmes proposed by EASA are supported and justified by the need to increase or maximise safety, and that this is appropriately weighed against the financial input that is required.

ERA Policy and Actionmtc1_web_160

Much of the Directorate activity on maintenance issues involves liaising and participating in EASA's various rulemaking groups. In doing so, ERA members have a unique opportunity to influence any proposed future changes to regulation.  In particular the Directorate ensures that:

  • proposals for changes to regulatory requirements are monitored frequently and members advised of actions they should take and any proposed policies;
  • areas where efficiency could be improved are identified and appropriate action initiated.

Background Information

EASA's rulemaking activities include the airworthiness and certification of aircraft and procedures for applying for a Permit to Fly. The Directorate has been particularly proactive in highlighting issues that ERA members have experienced in applying for a Permit to Fly to the Agency and in looking at resolutions to the problems.
