Eurocontrol is the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation. This civil and military Organisation which currently numbers 37 Member States, has as its primary objective the development of a seamless, pan-European Air Traffic Management (ATM) system. The Eurocontrol Agency is funded entirely by revenues from user charges paid by airspace users.

The ERA Directorate and members are active in both the technical work being performance by the Agency and also the governance and strategy of Eurocontrol. Technical activities are generally covered by the ERA Technical Services Section. Governance and strategy by the Infrastructure Section.

In the governance and strategy role, the Directorate represents members at the Eurocontrol Air Navigation Services Board (ANSB) and Chairs the Cooperative Network Design Supervisory Board (CNDSB). The ANSB's role is to advise the Agency on strategic objectives, business planning and key ATM network programmes including design, implementation and pan-European functions. The CNDSB oversees and provides advice to Eurocontrol senior management on its Corporative Network Design activities.
