ERA MEMBERS CALL FOR ‘BETTER REGULATION’ PROGRESS
3/10/2006
The European Regions Airline Association (ERA) is calling for greater commitment to ensure the European Commission’s ‘Better Regulation’ principles are being put into practice.
The resolution was agreed at the ERA General Assembly 2006 in Barcelona on 29 September.
ERA’s director general Mike Ambrose says: “The EC’s desire to improve the European Union’s lawmaking and regulatory processes is admirable and must be supported to ensure the theory of ‘better regulation’ becomes reality.
“The great strengths of the EC’s better regulation concepts are that they adopt a business-orientated approach and can be applied universally by all regulators as well as for project management.
“Nobody gains when poor legislation has to be redrafted or, even worse, implemented. We must work to ensure that rules and regulations are correct from the very beginning. ERA’s members have strong and legitimate concerns that business viability is threatened and jobs are being needlessly put at risk because the excellent principles for good governance promoted by Commission President Barroso are still not being applied rigorously by the European Commission in its day-to-day work.”
Note to Editors: Complementing the resolution, ERA has just published ‘Better Regulation: A Step-by-Step Guide’. To receive a copy of the publication, please contact Barry Dunstall, ERA’s corporate communications adviser, at barry.dunstall@eraa.org
