An article on the subject of de-/anti-icing has won Wayne Rosenkrans, senior editor, AeroSafety World, the ERA Hank McGonagle Journalism Award 2009/10.

The Award was presented by Mike Ambrose, director general, ERA, at a prestigious Awards Ceremony in Interlaken, Switzerland last night, as part of the Association's annual General Assembly.

Commenting on the win, Mike Ambrose, Director General, ERA said: "ERA has been and still is actively campaigning for regulation on the availability and application of de- and anti-icing fluids in Europe. Wayne's article got to the heart of what is a controversial but incredibly important issue, promoting its message to the wider community."

Introduced in 2002, the ERA Journalism Award is named after Hank McGonagle of GE-Aviation who recognised the important role played by the media in influencing the framework for the development of intra-European air transport. The Award recognises excellent, accurate and discerning reporting on topical issues related to the intra-European air transport industry. The winner is selected by the ERA Directorate.

Tom Christides was honoured with the ERA Director General's Commendation for services to the industry. The trophy was presented by Tony Merrigan, head of customer relations, from the Irish Aviation Authority which sponsors the award. Commenting on the honour, Mike Ambrose, ERA director general said:

"Tom has been the Chairman of the ERA Industry Affairs Work Group since 2003 and throughout his chairmanship he has demonstrated commitment and leadership skills. He has had to be aware of high level factors that exert major policy influences ranging across infrastructure, environment and air transport policy, from emissions trading to passengers with reduced mobility, EUROCONTROL charges to noise policy. As such, he has helped to establish the capacity and conditions that our industry needs for its future growth."
