GAPPRE (Parts 1 & 2) formally published

19 May 2021: Following the formal launch of the Global Action Plan for the Prevention of Runway Excursions (GAPPRE) at the recent Flight Safety Foundation / EUROCONTROL / ERA Safety Forum in February, the full document (Part 1 & Part 2) was published earlier this month.

Part 1 of the Global Action Plan for the Prevention of Runway Excursions (GAPPRE) was published by the Flight Safety Foundation and EUROCONTROL earlier in the year.

Developed by an international group of cross stakeholder aviation professionals from more than 40 different organisations, divided into six working groups and coordinated by EUROCONTROL and the Flight Safety Foundation, the GAPPRE was reviewed and validated by EASA, CANSO, ACI and IATA.

The document maps the path towards achieving a higher level of runway safety, not just in the current context but also taking due consideration those technological enablers that are expected over the next decade.

Part 1 contains these agreed recommendations to aerodrome operators, ANSPs, aircraft operators, aircraft manufacturers, regulators, ICAO and research and development recommendations for states, international organisations and the industry.

On 5 May, Part 2 of the document was published.

This section contains guidance and explanatory material, as well as best practices, that support the recommendations found in Part 1 and is based on best practices and materials shared by the industry in support of the GAPPRE implementation, thus it not intended to be limiting or prescriptive in its nature.
