Air Malta is a point-to-point leisure-based operator. The airline of the Maltese islands started operations on 1 April 1974 with seven scheduled services across Europe with two wet-leased aircraft. Air Malta now operates a fleet of 10 Airbus A320 aircraft and flies to around 40 scheduled destinations in Europe, North Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean. It carries two million passengers yearly and over the course of its history has transported almost 60 million passengers safely to and from Malta.
The airline is working to further enhance and increase connectivity services through Malta and over the last two years it embarked on a growth strategy launching 25 new routes across Europe, north Africa and the Middle East. The airline is undergoing a five-year fleet replacement project to replace all its fleet with brand new, more environmentally-friendly 180 -seater Airbus A320neo.
