Valdemar Warburg was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Sunclass Airlines in January 2023. Since joining the airline, he has led a turnaround of the largest charter carrier in the Nordics, operating 12 aircraft and carrying over one million passengers annually. Under his leadership, Sunclass Airlines moved from a loss to a profit, supported by a comprehensive cost‑transformation programme.
Before becoming CEO, Warburg served as VP and Head of Business Unit Nordic at the European shipping company DFDS (2019–2022), where he was responsible for the business unit spanning Nordics, Baltics, Russia and Ukraine and launched DFDS’ global online logistics booking platform. Earlier, as Group Transformation Officer at DFDS (2017–2019), he oversaw group procurement, business intelligence, smart data, sustainability, and innovation. His previous roles also include heading the DFDS Transformation Office (2015–2017), where he professionalised the programme management and internal consulting capabilities.
Warburg began his career in aviation as an analyst in Revenue Management at Scandinavian Airlines (2005–2007), before joining McKinsey & Company, where he spent eight years focused exclusively on global airlines and transportation clients. As Associate Partner in McKinsey’s Global Aviation Practice, he led more than 40 projects across airlines, ferry operators, railways, hotel groups and container terminals.
