More than just a route: Amelia’s latest contract highlights the value of Public Service Obligations

How do you measure the value of an air route? By the number of passengers it carries, or the opportunities it creates for the communities it connects?

It’s a question that sits at the heart of Public Service Obligation (PSO) routes. Some routes will never top the traffic charts, but that doesn’t make them any less important.

Take the Pau–Paris Orly route.

Four more years of connectivity

Amelia is continuing to operate the Pau–Paris Orly PSO route after securing a new four-year contract from the Syndicat Mixte Pau Pyrénées.

Having operated the route since February 2025, Amelia will offer morning and evening return flights every weekday, plus a Sunday evening service. Flights will be operated by an Embraer 145, which forms the backbone of the Amelia Group’s fleet.

For an essential route such as Pau–Paris Orly, consistency matters. Amelia has built a reputation for reliable, punctual operations, helping to secure another four years operating this important link for the Béarn region.

It’s another reminder that the value of a regional air service is measured not only by the destinations it serves but by the confidence it inspires.

More than a seat to Paris

Regional flights aren’t just about reaching one destination. They’re about the connections they unlock. With convenient timings for both business and leisure travellers, the Pau–Paris Orly service also opens up access to onward travel through one of France’s busiest airports.

From 21 July, the journey becomes even smoother with Amelia’s commercial partnership with Air France allowing passengers to book flights through Air France’s sales channels, making it even easier to access onward destinations across the wider network.

The contract win comes during a landmark year for Amelia, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. It’s a fitting way to mark decades of connecting communities across Europe – a role the airline will continue to play on the Pau–Paris Orly route for at least another four years.
