Mário Jorge Costa Lobato de Faria is a mechanical engineer, specialised in thermodynamics, with a degree from Instituto Superior Técnico. Married with two children, he began his career in aviation in 1989 as a powerplant engineer at TAP Air Portugal.
In 1993, he was invited to establish the engineering department of Portugália Airlines and was appointed Maintenance and Engineering Director in 1995. For one year during his tenure, he also served as the airline’s Human Resources Director.
Following the privatisation of OGMA in 2006, with Embraer as its main shareholder, he was appointed Vice President of Industrial Operations, overseeing all production activities – including Military, Civil, and Executive MRO, as well as parts manufacturing in metal and composite structures. In 2008, after a corporate restructuring, he became responsible for the entire MRO business.
In March 2014, he returned to TAP as Maintenance and Engineering Managing Director and Chief Technical Officer, where he led significant improvements in profitability, capacity modernisation, and the introduction of LEAP engine capabilities.
In June 2023, he is invited to embrace a new role in a TAP Group company as Managing Director of TAP Express operated by Portugália Airlines.
