Key takeaways from ERA’s webinar on ReFuelEU and CORSIA

On 20 November, ERA held a webinar to provide members with an update on the current status of ReFuelEU Aviation and CORSIA.

Thanks to all members who joined the meeting and to our speakers Nikolaos Schoinochoritis of Luxair and Mark Latimer and Danny Thurtle of Vertis for sharing their expertise.

A summary of the key points raised in the meeting can be found below:

  • ERA provided an update on the current status of ReFuelEU Aviation, recapping the work carried out to date, the findings of our recent study and where key implementation issues stand.
  • We outlined how some of ERA’s asks from the study are reflected in the Commission’s STIP plan, particularly on supplier obligations, traceability, reporting simplification and the exploration of Book & Claim.
  • We also stressed that STIP is only a plan – its impact will depend entirely on how its ideas are translated into practical measures, and further action will still be required to address the core challenges regional airlines face.
  • Luxair shared its methodology and practical insights, contributing to best practices on how airlines can assess the cost impact of the SAF mandate.
  • Vertis provided an update on CORSIA, including the 2024 sector growth factor and what upcoming offsetting obligations mean for operators.
  • ERA encouraged members to continue sharing data to strengthen evidence-based advocacy.
