20,678 flights, 2.6 million passengers, and an expanding European network – 2025 was a year of solid performance for Luxair, but also one that quietly marked the beginning of a broader transformation.
While the Luxembourg carrier continued to expand its route offering and maintain steady demand, it also began laying the foundations for its next phase of development through fleet renewal, operational investment, and broader European footprint.
The airline’s 2025 Annual Report, published under the theme ‘Getting ready for tomorrow – Chapter 2: Building momentum for the journey ahead’, highlights a business preparing not just for near-term growth, but for long-term evolution.
A fleet renewal programme takes shape
The clearest signal of that shift came in November with the introduction of Luxair’s first Embraer E195-E2. The aircraft’s arrival marked the first step in a wider fleet modernisation programme that will continue over the coming years, with additional Embraer E2 and Boeing 737 aircraft expected to join the fleet.
“The arrival of this first Embraer E195-E2 is a decisive step into Luxair’s future,” said Gilles Feith, CEO of Luxair. “It marks the beginning of our ambitious fleet renewal programme, which will strengthen our competitiveness, reduce our environmental impact and enhance the travel experience for our passengers. With the E2, we are investing in quieter, more efficient and more comfortable aircraft, ensuring that Luxair remains a reliable connector for Luxembourg and the Greater Region for many years to come.”
Behind the scenes, the transition also required significant investment in operational capability and training. Early in 2025, four Luxair pilots trained with Helvetic Airways to obtain their type rating on the new aircraft. After completing ground school, simulator sessions, and line operations, they returned to Luxembourg to help introduce the Embraer E195-E2 into service and support pilot training across the airline.
“Luxair has strong foundations, a clear direction and, above all, dedicated people who make this company what it is”
Growth, connectivity and operational stability
Alongside fleet renewal, Luxair maintained stable operational performance throughout the year.
The airline operated more than 20,000 flights and carried 2.6 million passengers, including charter services, generating €786.2 million in revenue. At the same time, Luxair continued expanding its European footprint. The airline now serves 94 destinations across 32 countries – a net increase of 27 routes since 2019.
That momentum is expected to continue into 2026, with nine additional routes already announced as the carrier further strengthens connectivity from Luxembourg and the Greater Region.
Supporting that growth is an increasingly international workforce. Luxair now employs 2,017 people representing more than 60 nationalities across its operations, customer experience, and support functions.
“As Luxembourg’s national airline, we are committed to serving the country and the Greater Region with quality, reliability and care,” said Gilles Feith. “Luxair has strong foundations, a clear direction and, above all, dedicated people who make this company what it is.”
Advocating for the future of regional aviation
As a regional carrier, Luxair has continued to highlight the essential role regional aviation plays in Europe’s economy, connectivity and social cohesion.
Alongside supporting ERA’s advocacy work, the airline used 2025 to call for a more balanced and future-proof regulatory framework for regional aviation. Its priorities included updating the European Air Services Regulation; adapting EU261 to better reflect the realities of regional carriers; ensuring fair access to airport infrastructure; addressing unfair pricing practices; and reviewing cybersecurity compliance requirements for smaller operators.
The focus reflects a broader industry debate around how regional airlines can continue supporting connectivity while navigating increasing operational and regulatory pressures.
Looking ahead
For Luxair, 2025 was not defined by a dramatic shift in performance, but by the early stages of a longer-term transformation.
With fleet renewal now underway, network growth continuing, and investment being made across operations and people, the airline is reinforcing its competitiveness while strengthening its role as a vital regional connector across Europe.
