Darragh O’Brien T.D. was appointed Minister for Climate, Environment and Energy and Minister for Transport in January 2025. Previously, he served as Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage from 2020 to 2025. He is an elected Teachta Dála (TD) representing the constituency of Dublin Fingal East.
With more than 20 years of political experience, Darragh was first elected to Fingal County Council in 2004, having previously worked as a senior executive in the pensions and financial services sector. He was elected to the 30th Dáil in 2007 and subsequently to Seanad Éireann in 2011.
Over the course of his parliamentary career, Darragh has held a range of senior roles within the Oireachtas, including Vice-Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee, member of the Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Equality, Defence and Law Reform, Leader of Fianna Fáil and Finance spokesperson in the Seanad, and Opposition Frontbench Spokesperson for Dublin, Foreign Affairs and Housing.
Born, raised, and living in Malahide, in North Country Dublin, Darragh remains deeply involved in his local community, maintaining strong links with sporting organisations, voluntary groups, and community initiatives across the constituency.
