Jonathan Hinkles has spent over 30 years in the airline industry, much of it in the regional sector since joining Gatwick-based CityFlyer Express straight from school in 1993. Today, he is Managing Director and Accountable Manager for Skybus, the airline of the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company, which provides lifeline scheduled links, air ambulance, mail and freight flights for the 2,000 residents of the islands. Skybus also serves a similarly-sized population on the island of Alderney under a contract with Aurigny. Before joining Skybus, Hinkles spent a total of 12 years as Commercial Director, Chief Operating Officer and then Chief Executive of Loganair, navigating the airline through the COVID-19 pandemic and building it to become the UK’s largest regional airline. In between, he spent four years in senior operational roles at Virgin Atlantic.
He also advises airlines and investors in the regional aviation space and writes for Airliner World.
