George Alexakis is Vice-Governor of Crete (Greece) in charge of European and International Affairs and Vice-President of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR), where he plays a leading role in shaping EU policies on transport and regional accessibility.

He holds a Diploma Degree in Civil Engineering from the Democritus Technical University of Greece and a Master of Science in Urban and Regional Planning from the London School of Economics and Political Science. His professional career began in 1991 as a civil engineer, city planner and environmentalist, and he has since been involved in the preparation and implementation of more than 100 projects at local, regional and European level.

From 2001 to 2004, he served as Chief Executive Officer of the Heraklion Port Authority (Crete, Greece). Through his institutional and professional roles, Alexakis actively promotes sustainable, resilient and inclusive development for Europe’s maritime, insular and coastal regions.
